After seeing the Cell Block Tango, I expected this to be a beautiful, funny, harsh musical about life in a prison (I didn't know anything about the musical or movie). I was wrong. Don't get me wrong, it was visually spectacular and the songs were fun to listen to, but I seriously don't see the hype in this movie. The dancers and singers were great and the costumes were also beautifully designed by Colleen Atwood, but I just don't get how this movie has won 6 Academy Awards.

A woman shoots her boyfriend after finding out he can't make her a star. She is moved to the Cook County Jail, awaiting her final judgement, where she depends on a lawyer to make sure the judge's verdict is good.

If you like this movie, I recommend you see the Dutch version of the Cell Block Tango: De Tralietango. It's much rougher and expressive than the English version. It is, as far as I know the only musical song where I prefer the Dutch version over the English version.
