(500) Days Of Summer Review

IMDb Rating: 7.9
Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 87%
Notable Cast/Crewmembers: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zooey Deschanel, Chloƫ Grace Moretz, Matthew Gray Gubler
Genre: Comedy, Romance

I liked it, but it wasn't as great as I had hoped.
______

Tom, a card designer, falls in love with his company's new employee. She, however, doesn't believe in relationships.
______
I liked the idea of people who don't believe in love. I also liked it that the fourth wall was constantl broken. I didn't like Zooey Deschanel's acting, though, not enough emotions. Maybe she thought it suits her character, but I don't think that not believing in love is the same as not having emotions.
______
Author's Note: The following is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental. Especially you Jenny Beckman. Bitch.

Best Donna Noble Moment

Donna Noble: [to the Doctor] What is it? What else?
[the Doctor makes muffled noises while making a shaking motion]
Donna Noble: I can't understand you! How many words?
[the Doctor holds up one finger]
Donna Noble: One! One word! Shake, milk-shake, milk! Milk! No? Not milk! Um, shake, shake, shake! Cocktail shake! What, d'you want a Harvey Wallbanger?
The Doctor: Harvey Wallbanger?
Donna Noble: Well, I don't know!
The Doctor: How is Harvey Wallbanger one word?
Agatha Christie: What do you need Doctor?
The Doctor: Salt! I was miming salt! I need salt! I need something salty!
[Donna grabs a bag from the counter]
Donna Noble: What about this?
The Doctor: What is it?
Donna Noble: Salt!
The Doctor: That's too salty!
Donna Noble: Oh, that's too salty!
Agatha Christie: What about this?
[Agatha hands the Doctor a jar and he upends it, eating the food]
Donna Noble: What's that?
Agatha Christie: Anchovies.
[the Doctor jolts his hands out, miming a shock]
Donna Noble: Um, it's a song! Meh-meh? Um, I don't know! 'Camptown Races'?
The Doctor: 'Camptown Races'?
Donna Noble: Well! All right, then! 'Towering Inferno'!
The Doctor: It's a shock! Look, shock!
[he mimes again]
The Doctor: I need a shock!
Donna Noble: Right, then. Big shock. Coming up.
[Donna grabs the Doctor and plants a full-frontal kiss on him. The Doctor staggers away, lifts his face up to the ceiling and releases a cloud of poisons from his body]
The Doctor: [gasps] Detox. Oh! I must do that more often.
[looks at Donna apprehensively]
The Doctor: I mean, the, the detox

30DMC Day Twenty-Four

The one awesome movie idea that hasn't been done yet.

-I can't tell you about it because I'm writing it right now. Arrogance? No, why?

(Though a My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic movie would be great too)

Young Adult Review

IMDb Rating: 6.8
Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 81% on the Tomatometer, 58% with audiences.
Notable Cast/Crewmembers: Charlize Theron, Patton Oswald, Patrick Wilson, Elizabeth Reaser, Jason Reitman, Diablo Cody
Genre: Drama, Comedy

I liked it very much, but I can understand why some people don't like it.
___________
Mavis, a C-writer goes back to her home town to seduce her ex-boyfriend. That's actually all that happens.
___________

I loved how this isn't a story with a closed beginning and a closed end, but more of a snap shot of somebody's life. The characters don't talk a lot, which is something I can always appreciate in movies. In most movies, the characters talk too much, while a lot of their lines are neither important to the story, nor realistic. I movies like Somewhere, Fucking Amal and Sweeney Todd, the characters talk less, which gives the audience the opportunity to enjoy the acting.

30DMC Day Twenty-Three

Favourite animation.

-Corpse Bride. I wasn't really into the story, partly because it was overshadowed by The Nightmare Before Christmas, but the animation was fantastic. I couldn't believe it was stop-motion.

Frankenstein (Book) Review

"All men hate the wretched; how then, must I be hated, who am miserable beyond all living things! Yet you, my creator, detest and spurn me, they creature, to whom thou art bound by ties only dissoluble by the annihilation of one of us."

Author: Mary Shelley
Release Date: 1818
Length: 240 pages
Summary:
A sailor finds a disoriented scientist in the middle of the sea. After he recovers, he tells him how he got stuck on the ice: a few years before, he attempted to find the thin line between life and death, and he accidentally made a monster. The scientist flees and the monster escapes and he isn't heard of for a year or so, until the scientist's brother is killed. The monster didn't feel loved anywhere, so in his despair he killed a young boy, who happened to be the scientist's brother. He tells him that everyone shuns him because of his ugly appearance. Because his master created him, the monster renders him responsible for his misfortune. He promises to leave the human society if the scientist makes a wife for him.
The scientist refuses, because he doesn't want to create another being that is so harmful to society. In response, the monster kills his best friend and his wife. The scientist chases him all across Europe in order to kill the monster, but after a while, when he chases him across a big, frozen sea, the ice breaks and he is trapped (which is where the story begins). After a while, he dies. The monster goes to the ship and sees his master. He feels guilty and jumps off the boat to kill himself.

_____________________
I'd been wanting to read this for a long time. Mainly because of the influence it has had on pop culture but also just because the story is appealing to me. Let me tell you one thing: it's nothing like the film. There is no burning windmill, the monster isn't green and the scientist doesn't yell: "IT'S ALIVE!" the story is not very eventful, but it is very nice to read. It's endearing to see how much joy the monster gets from seeing normal people and their families.
What I didn't like was the end. I was really rooting for the monster, because I though the scientist was really selfish for just leaving his monster. I would've liked it more if the monster hadn't felt any remorse at all.

Today I was in a nice mood (with the emphasis on was. Stupid homeword ruined my day. #FirstWorldProblems) so I decided to add some more songs on Spotify, to continue my search for a good taste in music.
These are the songs I've added:

1. Uprising - Muse
2. Oxford Comma - Vampire Weekend
3. What's Up - 4 Non Blondes
4. Breakfast At Tiffany's - Deep Blue Something
5. Jump - Kris Kross
6. Milk And Alcohol - Dr. Feelgood
7. The Pretender - Foo Fighters

30DMC Day Eightteen

A movie you wish more people would've seen.

-Conversations With Other Women. It's funny, clever, the actors are great and the split-screen is wonderful. It's not really hard to understand what's going on, but it still makes you think.

-The Shy Hipster

Dark Shadows

Today, the first trailer of Dark Shadows was released, and to be honest: I'm not sur if I'm going to like it. Sure, it looks beautiful and there's Danny Elfman, Helena Bonham Carter, Tim Burton et cetera, but still...
Maybe it's just the American way of advertising things (i.e. advertise everything as a comedy, even if it's not.), but it just doesn't seem funny to me. The story is nice though: a vampire has been locked away by a witch for hundreds of years and when he comes back to his house, he finds a new family there. It goes on like that, but I don't really know the particulars.

Electric Six - Gay Bar

Electric Six. Ever heard of them? Maybe not, but they have a song that is, in my opinion, one of the most important songs of this decade: Gay Bar.
The lyrics go like this:

You!
I wanna take you to a gay bar,
I wanna take you to a gay bar,
I wanna take you to a gay bar, gay bar, gay bar.

Let's start a war, start a nuclear war,
At the gay bar, gay bar, gay bar.
Wow! (Shout out loud)
At the gay bar.

Now tell me do ya, a do ya have any money?
I wanna spend all your money,
At the gay bar, gay bar, gay bar.

[Pause]

I've got something to put in you,
I've got something to put in you,
I've got something to put in you,
At the gay bar, gay bar, gay bar.
Wow! (Shout out loud)

You're a superstar, at the gay bar.
You're a superstar, at the gay bar.
Yeah! you're a superstar, at the gay bar.
You're a superstar, at the gay bar.
Superstar.
Super, super, superstar

30DMC Day Fourteen

-Probably Love Actually or Finding Nemo, because I am not a romantic person in the "lovey-dovey" sense of the word, and I hate Disney with a passion. But Finding Nemo was epic.

Conservapedia

So this is actually a thing. There is a wiki for conservatives. At first I thought it was a joke, but I looked it up and it is actually a thing.
Now, let me explain this to the creators of this page: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. They are meant to give unbiased information on a subject. How, in Celestia's name, is it possible to have unbiased information from a conservative point of view?

It's really funny to take a look at the list of films that are deemed "suitable" for conservatives. One of them is Bruce Almighty, because it shows how the tasks of God cannot be done by a mere human. I was a little surprised that they were open-minded enough to think it was OK to let God be a black person. Though, of course, if there is a God, it's probably Morgan Freeman.

30DMC Day Twelve

A movie that you hate.

-Disaster Movie. It's not even funny as a parody. I didn't smile the slightest while watching it. I don't get how those movies keep getting money from producers and original ideas don't.

(I heard, but this is only a suspicion, that most movies they parodied weren't even released at the time of screenwriting. That means that the only source they had for the movies were trailers or maybe even posters. They're spoofing something that they couldn't have possibly known.)

Hugo Review

IMDb Rating: 7.9
Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 93%
Notable Cast/Crewmember: Chloƫ Grace Moretz, Martin Scorsese, Christopher Lee, Richard Griffiths, Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Asa Butterfield, Emily Mortimer, Helen McCrory, Frances De La Tour, Jude Law
Genre: Drama, Family

I liked it, though I don't think it's as great as everyone thinks it is.
___________
Hugo Cabret lives in a train station in Paris, France. His father died in a fire (we don't really hear what happened to his mother, but I suppose she died.) and he was adopted by his alcoholic uncle, who repairs clocks in the station. He teaches Hugo how to repair clocks before leaving him. Hugo starts repairing an automaton that his father gave to him before he died. He finds out that it belongs to the station's toy shop holder, who was once a filmmaker.
___________
I loved the movie, because it was visually beautiful. It sits somewhere between a fairy tale and real life and the 3D really adds something to the movie.
However, I don't think it was that great as a story. Chloƫ Grace Moretz' character was downright annoying and because she had to play in a accent that is not her own, she wasn't as convincing as she could have been.
___________
Lisette: Don't forget to smile.
Station Inspector: Which one? I've mastered three!

I Don't Like Gale

So, in the Hunger Games trilogy, there is one character called Gale. He is the handsome, caring-but-never-shows-his-emotions kind of guy, and I hate him. I feel like he's only a character in the book because Katniss needs a big dilemma.
What ticks me off is that in the first book Katniss was like: "Ugh, I hate it that everybody thinks that Gale and I are a couple. That's so stupid, why can't they just be open-minded enough to let us be friends.

And in the second part of the second book she was all: "OMG, his body was next to mine and I felt his lips and OMG, I just can't decide between the guy who would die for me, who I'm in love with and the guy I have never felt anything for!!!11!!one!!"

Nevertheless, it's still a great series and I would recommend it to everyone. It is, however, not the second Harry Potter. Not by far.

30DMC Day Four

A movie that makes you sad?

-Disaster movie. It's just so bad. It isn't well-acted, it's ugly and it's not even funny as a parody. I heard that half of the movies that they parodied weren't even released yet, so they're basically making fun of trailers. It makes me sad that the whole "[something-or-other] Movie" is still being funded while there are millions of artists out there with original, funny ideas.
