Some Things My Whovian Friend Posted On Facebook

As you all know, the Doctor was supposed to carry the Olympic torch, but he didn't. this is what my friend had to say about it:

-NO

-Dear London 2012 Olympic Committee,
If a giant hole in space-time appears and engulfs the Earth, you have nobody to blame but yourselves.

-If you listen carefully you can hear the sound of millions of Whovians sobbing.

-LAST FUC***NG CHANCE DAVID TENNANT!

-HEY BRITAIN
GUESS WHO DAVID TENNANT IS
NOT THAT GUY

-You had one job Olympics, one job.

-Do you hear that?
That’s the sound of every Whovian’s heart breaking.

-What part of fixed point in time don't you understand?

-But, guys... what if?
What if David…?
In Ten’s clothes…?
What if?

Australia Holiday Update Three: Hervey Bay

I hugged a koala! EHRMAHGERD, KOEHLERS! I also let kangaroos eat out of my hand and I saw a platypus. This was all in Brisbane. Hervey Bay has a lot less, unfortunately. They've got a shark museum, which is mostly dedicated to saying how dangerous sharks are, and how we shoul;d wipe 'em out.

Le Fabuleux Destin D'Amélie Poulin Review

IMDb Rating: 8.5
Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 90%
Notable Cast/Crewmembers: Audrey Tautou, Yann Tiersen, Mathieu Kassovitz
Genre: Fantasy, Comedy

A modern classic.
_____
Amélie, an imaginitive, young woman accidentally finds a box full of stuff from somebody's childhood. She decides to find the original owner and if he's happy with it, she will continue to do good deeds for others.
_____
I have watched it twice now, and it was actually better than I had remembered. Audrey Tautou was the perfect person to play Amélie. She can completely transform from heartbreakingly cute to stone cold. The whole atmosphere breathes fairy tale and the characters are both realistic and absurd at the same time. I just love it.
_____
Narrator: Nino is late. Amelie can only see two explanations. 1 - he didn't get the photo. 2 - before he could assemble it, a gang of bank robbers took him hostage. The cops gave chase. They got away... but he caused a crash. When he came to, he'd lost his memory. An ex-con picked him up, mistook him for a fugitive, and shipped him to Istanbul. There he met some Afghan raiders who too him to steal some Russian warheads. But their truck hit a mine in Tajikistan. He survived, took to the hills, and became a Mujaheddin. Amelie refuses to get upset for a guy who'll eat borscht all his life in a hat like a tea cozy.

Crazy, Stupid, Love Review

IMDb Rating: 7.5
Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 78%
Notable Cast/Crewmembers: Analeigh Tipton, Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, Kevin Bacon
Genre: Comedy

Better than I had expected, not as good as I'd hoped.
_____
Cal's wife has been cheating on him, his son is in love with the babysitter, who in turn is in love with Cal again. Cal's desperate for love/sex so he seeks help with a womanizer, who then falls in love with a 'PG-13' girl.
_____
I have always liked the mosaic kind of romantic comedy. I just felt that with this one, they focused more on moral (always keep trying, don't go for the older men, don't cheat) than on humour or romance. I liked the originality of the 'relationship' between Jessica and Cal, and I thought the 'meeting scene', in which it is revealed that Hannah is Cal's daughter, was extremely clever.
_____
Cal: [standing in the rain after Emily argues with him] What a cliché.

Australia Holiday Update Two: Singleton

We're in a small town called Singleton, in the Blue Mountains. Yesterday we spent the night on a camping in the mountains and we were supposed to be there tonight as well, but we decided to go to a Motel, because it was far too cold on the camping.

Music Challenge Day Nineteen

A song from your favourite album.

-The Howling by Within Temptation. It's my favourite album because it was the first cd that was really mine and just because it is awesome as fuck.

-The Shy Hipster

Phrases I like.

*Too close for comfort
*Live long and prosper
*It's the deep breath before the plunge
*The dawn of time
*When I wore a younger man's clothes
*The crack of dawn
More to come (maybe not)

-RedHazzard

Something's coming

Yesterday when I was working I saw someone who uncannily resembled Bernard Cribbins. I was briefly stunned by this. I served him his food and turned around, to see another man who looked exactly like Bill Bailey, but slightly older. For those of you who don't know what this means, keep your eyes open to a blue box in the sky. Trust me...

Australia Holiday Update One: Sydney

Right now I'm in Sydney, after having flown nine hours from Amsterdam to Hong Kong, and another eight hours from Hong Kong to Sydney. Today, I went to the Powerhouse Museum, where they had an exhibition of Narnia, with a lot of costumes and parts of the set. In the rest of the museum, there was a Lego exhibition, a science exhibition and a vehicle exhibition. Funny detail: There was a small video, in which they linked the White Witch with climate change. And right next to it was...A White Witch throne which was being kept cool by enormous cooling machines.
Tonight, I'm going to a real opera in the one and only Sydney Opera House. I don't know the opera, so I'm not sure what to expect, but I'm certain it will be awesome.

Charlemagne used to travel between his summer- and winter castles, moving on when he had depleted all the resources.
My parents are divorced.

It just might.

HA!

Easy. I know that you said, it never was gonna be easy. But not this hard.

The one and only Tinkebell tweeted a link to my blog! I think I might faint.

-The Shy Hipster

Tinkebell Hypocrisy

Tinkebell is a Dutch artist, who has very controversial ideas: she has made a purse of her own cat, she has threatened to shred sixty small male chicks and she has made a life-size My Little Pony out of a taxidermy horse.
Of course, the first reaction most people have, is: "Is this woman insane?" But a few actually start to think after that: Why is it normal that we make purses out of foxes, seals and minks, but not cats? Why can the bio industry kill little chicks if they're male, but she can't? Why can we shave, brush, train and abuse horses until they look and act more like robots than living animals, but can't she make a dead horse look like a pony from My Little Pony?
Unfortunately, not a lot of people see what she tries to do with her art (which is weird, because with every artwork, she explains how it is actually pro-animal) and they just go on and on, spewing criticism. The worst part is that there are people who have threatened to kill her if she goes on with making her art. I think this is hypocrisy of the highest level. Here you are, claiming that you are against animal cruelty, but you ARE willing to kill another human being.

I, for one, like her art very much, and I hope that she'll get people to understand that we should stop treating animals like products.

Music Challenge Day Fourteen

A song that no one would expect you to love.

-Enter The Ninja, by Die Antwoord. I have heard a lot of people go: "What, YOU listen to THIS?" It's hip hop and it's South African and I love it, but I can understand why a lot of people don't like it, as the chorus is very high-pitched and not a lot of people like that. Also, I'm not the hip hop type, so I can understand why people wouldn't think I liked it.

De Rouille Et d'Os Review

IMDb Rating: 7.8
Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 83%
Notable Cast/Crewmembers: Marion Cotillard, Mathias Schoenaerts,
Genre: Drama

A great story, but also a very sad one.
_____
Ali meets Stéphanie, an orca trainer, when he has a job as a bouncer, after he and his son moved in with his sister. Stéphanie is involved in a fight and Ali brings her home and gives her his number. A few weeks (or months) later, Stéphanie is attacked by one of her orcas and she loses both her legs. At the same time, Ali is a street fighter for a living.
_____
I wanted to see this movie because I adore Marion Cotillard. I can say she hasn't let me down. The acting was amazing, the story was really moving, though a little heavy for some people. The dialogues are (as far as I can judge with French text) very realistic. I think it's really a must see.
