30DMC Day Three

A movie that makes you really happy?

-Big Fish, because it's colourful, funny and romantic. Not to mention all the great actors and actresses: Ewan McGregor, Helena Bonham Carter, Steve Buscemi...

-The Shy Hipster

One Year!

Today, FunkyGreenFishie is exactly one year old!
HUZZAH!
You know what this calls for? A PAR-TAY!

(It's just an internet party, so this is it)

I have decided to leave the annual statistics behind, because it's not really interesting and I have a Geography test tomorrow.
-The Shy Hipster

Tara Strong Is Best Voice Actress

I just watched two episodes of the Powerpuff Girls and one episode of Fairly Odd Parents and I DON'T REGRET A THING!

-The Shy Hipster

(Seriously though, I was really focused, but I just couldn't hear the same voice in Twilight Sparkle, Bubbles or Timmy)

30DMC Day Two

The most underrated movie?

-Planet Of The Apes from 2001. Sure, it was rubbish, but it isn't half as bad as people say it is. They act like it's some sort of crime against cinema, while it's better than most action movies. Especially the cast: Tim Roth, Helena Bonham Carter...

Annual Statistics

I have decided that, since FGF is almost a year old, I'm going to show you the super secret inside statistics. That is, how many pageviews we've gotten, which country visits us the most, which post is the most popular one, et cetera. Basically, everything that's boring.
Just wait until February 28th! (I made a rhyme there!)

-The Shy Hipster

30DMC Day One

The best movie you saw during the last year?

-I think the 'best' as in: new, best written etc. was Zelig. It wasn't the movie I enjoyed the most though.

-The Shy Hipster

Chatroullette

OH GOD WHY? The horror...THE HORROR

(Though there were a few genuinely nice people, but mostly just a Sausagefest)

Favourite episode of all time?

-The Eleventh Hour, because it's so funny and sad at the same time. I love little Amelia.

-The Shy Hipster

This was the last day of my Doctor Who challenge, tomorrow the moviechallenge will start!

Skirts Day

I declare today to be this years' Skirts Day. You may ask: What it Skirts Day?
Well, a famous Dutch writer Martin Bril (sadly, he passed away in 2009) once noticed that every year there is one day, in either early spring or late winter, when women suddenly start wearing skirts. All at once. So that's Skirts Day.

(In Dutch it's called Rokjesdag)

16DDWC Day Fifteen

Favourite Doctor moment?

-When Eleven is giving his first long speech (to the Atraxi), beginning with "You are not of this world" and ending with "Hello, I'm the Doctor. Basically...Run"
I've seen it around thirty times and it still gives my goosebumps.

-The Shy Hipster

Sorry

I haven't been updating for a few days, because I used up all the internet time we had in our room in our hotel. Sorry for that!

Dutch Prince In Danger After Avalanche

So, a member of the Dutch royal family was surprised by an avalanche. It's not sure yet if he will make it. Every Dutch paper is reporting on it, and it has even made the headlines in the German and Austrian news. While, of course, I feel sorry for his family, especially since he has a few young kids, I can't help but wonder: Every week, thousands of people die of AIDS, hunger and war. Shouldn't the media be reporting on them?

16DDWC Day Twelve

Least favourite villain?

-Cassandra, because she was a bit too exaggerated to be realistic.

Since I'm going to Austria for a week tomorrow, I just wanted to say that it's possible that I don't have wifi there, which means I'll not be able to update here on FunkyGreenFishie. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

Favourite Doctor catchphrase?

-"It's a [something-or-other], I wear a [something-or-other] now. [something-or-others] are cool."

-The Shy Hipster

Why The Dutch MLP:FIM Sucks

1.Bad acting. The only thing Dutch voice actors seem to be able to do is shouting. There is absolutely no emotion in their voices.

2. Half of the cast is Flemish. Now, I'm all for collaborations between countries, but NOT in acting. It's like a British persoon reading an American book and seeing stuff like ax, color and labor. It's just a different language and what is the point of translating something if it's not all the same language.

3. They can't sing. I watched "At The Gala" and Rainbow's solo was just...horrible. It was off-key and plain offensive.

4. The translation is bad. Every song has force-rhyming. It sends shivers down my spine...

16DDWC Day Five

Episode that scared you the most?

-I was really afraid of the Smilers in "The Beast Below". I thought their plastic faces were really scary and I nearly screamed when they suddenly stepped out of their boxes. But I've never really been scared of an episode, not even "The Empty Child".

The Hunger Games Review

"[quote]"

Author: Suzanne Collins
Release Date: September 14, 2008
Length: 454 pages
Summary:
Katniss lives in District Twelve, the poorest districs in Panem. Her sister is, against all odds, chosen to compete in the Hunger Games, a show in which twenty-four people (one boy and one girl from each district) fight each other to death in an arena full of danger. Katniss refuses to let her sister compete and volunteers to take her place in the arena.
____________
A great book, especially if you like fantasy and things like George Orwell. It shows how dictators work and how used we are to trusting people we shouldn't trust at all. It's the kind of book that really sucks you into it, which is why I read it in under four days (that really does say something). I'm definitely going to read the other books, though I don't think they are going to be as good as this one.

-The Shy Hipster

woensdag 8 februari 2012

16DDWC Day Two

Favourite companion/assistant?

-Amy Pond, because she doesn't take everything the Doctor says for granted, but she does know when she has to listen to him (instead of always getting in trouble like Rose Tyler). Also, she's smart, funny, REALLY beautiful and, oh yeah...SCOTTISH!

16DDWC Day One

Today, I'm starting my first day of the Doctor Who Challenge. I forgot to mention that I'm only talking about the new series, as I haven't seen anything of the old ones.

So here we go! The first question is:

Your favourite Doctor?

-Eleven, because he's funny and I like his type of clothing.

-The Shy Hipster

Faust Is My Hero

I watched the Powerpuff Girls yesterday. I was awesome.

I hadn't watched it since I was eight and Cartoon Network wasn't on tv anymore (it's okay, we got Nickelodeon.), so it really was a trip down Nostalgia Lane.

20DHBCC Day Twenty

How has Helena inspired you?

-I can't really say she's inspired me. She has changes me in the way that I started to watch more movies because of her. This led me to wanting to become a director.

This was the last Helena Bonham Carter post, tomorrow I will start with the Doctor Who challenge.

Somewhere Review

IMDb Rating: 6.4
Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 71% on the Tomatometer, 47% of audiences enjoyed it.
Notable Cast/Crewmembers: Elle Fanning, Sofia Coppola, Stephen Dorff
Genre: Drama

Though it was different than I had expected, I very much liked this movie because it's just so simple.
______
A celebrity's ex-wife has a nervous breakdown, which forces the actor into taking care of his eleven-year old daughter. He finds out that he was never really there for her.
______

I liked it because it has no explicit moral. It's just a story somebody's life, which is my favourite type of story. The first shots (a race car racing past five times) and an awkward stripper act show just how lonely his life is. Some may say that it's "the whining of the wealthy" but I think (and I'm on very thin ice here) that they missed the point completely. I think it's not about how bad the life of celebrities are, but how easy it is to lose yourself in material wealth. This same story could apply to a drug addict or a workaholic or, in fact, Sofia Coppola's own life. Now, of course I don't know a lot of her personal life, but I can imagine that if your father is Francis Ford Motherfucking Coppola, he can't spend a lot of time with you (which doesn't mean that if your father is NOT Francis Ford Coppola, he CAN spen time with you).
______
Ron the Masseur: Did they not tell you how I work? You see I have a website that explains my technique. I feel that if my client's naked, it's just more comfortable if I meet them at the same level.

20DHBCC Day Nineteen

Role you'd like to see Helena do.

-A companion on Doctor Who. I love almost every female companion, and Helena would be great for the part, I think.
I would also like to see her as Harley Quinn, because over the years, she has proven that she can play strange characters very well.

The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus Review

IMDb Rating: 7.0
Rotten Tomatoes: 64%
Notable Cast/Crewmembers: Andrew Garfield, Christopher Plummer, Lily Cole, Terry Gilliam, Verne Troyer, Tom Waits, Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Colin Farrell
Genre: Fantasy

Visually beautiful of course, since it's a Gilliam film, but the story isn't really of the kind that I like.
___________
Doctor Parnassus has a bet with the Devil, which means that he either lets five people lose themselves in his Imaginarium, or he must give his daughter to the devil.
___________
I guess I'm really not a Gilliam person. I like his visual style, it's very surreal with a lot of different types of special effects. The story, however, isn't really clear, as in a lot of his movies. It could be that I just didn't understand it, but I think it's kind of suspicious that most of the time I can fully understand a movie, including second and third layers, except when I'm watching a Gilliam movie.
___________
Percy: Telling the truth... always a bad idea.
