Egg On My Face...

I made a terrible mistake yesterday. I told you that if the interest rates on mortgage would go to the government instead of the people with houses that are too expensive, the government would have five hundred billion euros. I just read the article again, and I found out that it's five billion euros, not five hundred billion euros. Still, that's a lot of money, so my argument is still valid.

The Big Debate

Yesterday June the 26th the Mars der Beschaving (March of Civilization) was held in Rotterdam and The Hague in the Netherlands. People gathered at a famous museum in Rotterdam (the "Boijmans van Beuningen Museum") and walked to The Hague, which is more that thirty kilometers from Rotterdam. They started at 8 pm and finished at 3 am. More than 3000 people did this to alert the Dutch people that right now, as I am typing this, there is a debate going on about subsidizing culture. Our current government thinks that because we are in debt, it's appropriate to reduce grants for artists who are just beginning and increase the taxes on culture from 6% to 19%. Here are a few facts about this issue:

1. saving 200 million on culture doesn't help a bit if your total savings have to add up to 18 billion. It is, however, very bad for the culture sector, so nobody wins in this case.

2. No culture = no education

3. Our current government has found a way to make sure nobody has to pay their mortgage interest rate. This is also susidizing. If you add up all the money that people don't have to pay because of this, you've got FIVE HUNDRED BILLION EUROS. Needless to say, that is more than our savings have to add up to. So somewhere, our government has the key to a savings-free world, only instead of using it to help culture, education and healthcare, they'd rather give it to people who have houses that are worth more than a million euros.

4. We are, after 4 years still paying the JSF aircraft research. This aircraft can't do sh*t, is extremely expensive and we don't need it.

5. If you don't subsidize on art schools but you do subsidize on beginning art associations and places where people who lack experience in the arts can get experience, that means that you are educating people for jobs that don't exist. We'll get in another crisis.

6. How is it fair that the big art associations do get money?

Today there was a big protest at Het Malieveld in The Hague (BTW, the Dutch government is in The Hague, that's why all the protests are there. And Rotterdam is said to be the Dutch center of art, so the Mars der Beschaafdheid began there) where everybody raised their voice in order to attend our prime minister on the fact that it's plain stupid to cut off art. The protest itself was amazing. Everybody standing united for one goal was just a great feeling. There was also music, and famous and less famous people had written brilliant speeches. Unfortunately, it was 30 degrees Celsius, I hadn't brought any water and I was dressed in black long sleeves and long black trousers because I'm an idiot. But still, the protesting was great.

As of now, there is almost no hope that they will change their minds. Still we keep on fighting until the end.

Things One Can Do When Very Bored 2.0

Nothing new here, I'm bored again, so I'll just make some tips for myself.

1. FILM MARATHON! (Harry Potter, Star Wars, The Godfather etc.)
2. Try to learn a useless skill, like saying the alphabet backwards, or learn how to draw an anglerfish.
3. Find a bro and discuss about stupid things like "brownies vs cupcakes".
4. Make a stop-motion video.
5. Design your own language.
6. Bake a pie. From scratch of course. Otherwise you're a gnome.
7. Find something to hate. This may make you impopular.
8. Write a limerick.
9. Follow a stranger and make a voice over of everything they do.
10. Troll on a forum.

Most Underrated Superpower

Almost every time I ask people what kind of superpower they'd like, I get answers like "the power of invisibility" or "Being able to fly". You know what, this has to STOP!
We should all bow to the one and only superpower that is awesome enough to do EVERYTHING: The power to change into stuff.

Think of all the possibilities! You could change into an atom, so you'd be invisible. You could change into a butterfly so you could fly. You can even change into two people, so you'd have someone to talk to!

Superhero VS Superlame

-WARNING-

This blog is a waste of your time. You won't agree with this blog, since I don't know anything about superheroes. ENJOY!!

Ranking of superheroes according to a survey amongst me and nobody else.

Lame: Superman. WHY CAN'T HE LOOK THROUGH LEAD?

Less Lame: Wolverine. Having nails that big must be hard if he wants to pee...

Neutral: The Hulk. Needs some serious anger management, but c'mon, the guy is GREEN.

Cool:Spiderman. I mean, having spider powers is cool, but the story behind it isn't very credible. Radioactive spiders?

Ninja: Batman. He didn't just get strange super powers. He is just really smart (well, rich). He is a great rolemodel for young girls and boys.

Daily Wins

Since I ranted on random, weird things yesterday, I decided that it would be better if I made a list of small things that just make you go "AAAAAAAWWWW YEEAAAAHHH!".

1. Listening to a song on the radio for the millionth time and finding out that it is actually a really great song.

2. Catching a green light just in time.

3. Getting a compliment from somebody you don't know.

4. Giving a compliment to someone you don't know.

5. Knowing that there will be a time without war.

6. Doing something embarrassing and nobody notices.

7. Finding out that you are able to pick up stuff with your feet.

Random Rant

1. VMA Awards. If you have been on the internet last week, you have probably noticed that the Twilight Saga was the big winner at the VMA's. Was I the only one that was a little bit surprised that The King's Speech wasn't even nominated, and Twilight basically won EVERYTHING?

2. Tax on culture. Even though this was decided last year, I'm still mad about it. You don't just tax culture! That's like taxing education. I'm ambassador for HollandOpera (http://www.hollandopera.nl/ ), which is a brilliant organization, and they can hardly survive in this buisiness, because nobody buys their tickets if they're so expensive. Another example: in Amersfoort we have Scholen In De Kunst (basically lessons in almost every aspect of art). A lot of my friends refuse to get art lessons, solely because they're too expensive because of the taxes. This is a shame, since their lessons are really great.

3. I'm too tired to come up with another thing.

List of films I really want to see

Well, it's pretty easy: I want to see all of these films before I die. I put my motivation in italics and between brackets. If it says that I didn't know why I want to watch that film, it doesn't mean that I think that it will be a crappy movie, it means that I don't know what attracts me to the film.
Oh, and while making this list (I've been on it for like a week, I even had to look up film titles because otherwise I wouldn't get to 100 '-_-) I watched The Breakfast Club. So that one is watched. And some movies (Like Sliding Doors) I have seen, but that is almost too long ago to remember.

This is not in a specific order.

1. Fight Club (Because Helena Bonham Carter is in it, and it’s a cult movie)
2. Cry Baby (Because Johnny Depp is in it, and it’s a musical, but set in a prison)
3. Pulp Fiction (Claimed to be the best Tarantino movie)

Pissed Off

Okay, I was just looking for some information about Agatha Christie. I clicked the link to the page about The Mousetrap where I found out that Wikipedia just put the ending on the internet! Everybody who has ever heard about The Mousetrap knows that one should NEVER explain the plot twist in the end.
The only reason that I wanted to see that play when I was twelve was because it felt exciting, like you're part of a small secret community. Also, it's not fair that people won't go to London to see the play anymore.
Wikipedia, I am disappoint.
