I liked this movie, because it's one of the most absurd and crazy movies I've ever seen. The story itself isn't really all that interesting (although it is wildly original), but all the special effects (prosthetic make-up, green screens, stop-motion etc.) make it look like a B- list movie with A-list actors. And who doesn't love B-list movies with A-list actors?
SPOILERSSPOILERSSPOILERS
The story is about a married couple that dies in a car crash. They turn into ghosts and are required to stay in their house for a long time (I forgot how long. SHAME ON ME!). A new family moves into their home and of course, it's not a really nice family. Mom is an "artist" that makes horrible sculptures, dad doesn't care about his daughter. The only one that is actually sane is the girl, Lydia. She hates her family and does everything to get away from them. The ghosts try to scare away the family, releasing a "bio-exorcist" called Betelgeuse (pronounced Beetlejuice, hence the title) in their attempts.
Betelgeuse terrorises the family and almost marries Lydia. The ghosts gets rid of Betelgeuse just in time and befriend the family.

Adam: What are your qualifications?
Betelgeuse: Ah. Well... I attended Juilliard... I'm a graduate of the Harvard business school. I travel quite extensively. I lived through the Black Plague and had a pretty good time during that. I've seen the EXORCIST ABOUT A HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SEVEN TIMES, AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE IT... NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT YOU'RE TALKING TO A DEAD GUY... NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK? You think I'm qualified?_______
