I just finished watching it and to be quite honest, it was exactly as good as I had expected it to be. Which is really f*cking awesome.

The story is about a jewish boy (Bernie Rubens, played by Gregg Sulkin) who is about to have his bar mitzvah. Even though he has always been overshadowed by his brother and neglected by his parents who worry about the family business, he hopes to have the best bar mitzvah ever. That is, until England makes it to the World Cup Final, which happens to be on the same day as Bernie's bar mitzvah. After that, things only get worse for Bernie: the family loses all their money in a fire, his guests refuse to come to the party because of the World Cup Final and on the big day nobody really listens to Bernie. After he has run off, his parents realise they should've paid more attention to him, and his father takes him to see the last part of the football match, which England wins. The film ends with a shot of Bernie embracing his father while talking about how a bar mitzvah isn't important because of all the guests and the glamour and the presents, but because of the realisation that your parents are only human, and always try to make you feel happy.

I really enjoyed this, not only because of the superb acting and the great cast, but because this is such a simple story. It's not a real comedy, not a dramatic tearjerker, but just a story about a boy who feels neglected. It has a feeling a la Love Actually (which is not weird because they are both produced by Richard Curtis) but without the overly sentimental moments. A great film for everybody.
